Green logistics is currently on everyone’s lips, including ours. But in addition, we have firmly embedded environmental protection within our values and objectives. In collaboration with Prof Dr Dirk Lohre of Steinbeis Forwarding and Logistics Advisory Centre, we are therefore one of the first alliances to have developed a CO2 shipment calculator. Our partners have been using this since November 2012. All CargoLine partners and their sub-contractors used a detailed process to collect the basic data for this. The result is a greenhouse gas footprint in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14064 using real data which reflects the partners’ geographic and structural differences, thereby producing a realistic value when calculating emissions per shipment or per customer. We repeat this survey every year, so that we can always say exactly which environmental protection measures have succeeded and which should have priority in future. Hence we know we were able to reduce all emissions by 7.34 per cent in 2013 as compared to 2012! Incidentally, a striking feature of our CO2 calculator is that it is one of only a few in the industry to be certified in accordance with DIN EN 16258.
However, as a company can never operate with zero emissions despite its best efforts, we have agreed on a cooperation with offset provider ARKTIK in order to offer CO2-neutral transports as of autumn 2013.
Some of our environmental protection measures:
driver training courses to cut fuel consumption – use of low rolling resistance tyres and tyre pressure monitoring systems – modern fleet, testing of gas/diesel drives – combined transport – avoidance of empty runs thanks to modern route planning software – stop-start technology – city logistics – installation of photovoltaic systems – installation of strip lighting in warehouses – construction of new energy-neutral forwarding facilities – reduction in power, paper and water consumption – truck wash facilities with biological water treatment – and much more
